About My Ladybirds Cartoon Greeting Cards

Origin of My Ladybirds Greeting Cards

In October of 2023 I broke my right-hand wrist, both arm bones snapped at the wrist. In surgery, a titanium bar was attached across my wrist at the hand and going up my arm toward my elbow. Physical therapy did wonders, but did not entirely rehabilitate my wrist and hand movements. I took up drawing for rehabilitation therapy, it helps.

My niece Shari suggested I draw Ladybirds, a cartoon series of funny female birds that I created years ago. I used to cartoon professionally, but my Ladybirds were always just for myself and family, I never published them. Now, I am cartooning Ladybirds into greeting cards. Each card is 5 x 7 inches. My art medium is colored pencil, nothing else.

My scanned images that are shown here on this blog, do not do justice to the cards... The scans are not professional, so please excuse shadowing and spotting that appear in the images.

All my Ladybirds have personal backstories that appear on the inside of their card at the bottom.

Meet Bonnie, she is one of my Ladybirds in a series of Ladybird Cartoon Greeting cards. Bonnie is a BIRTHDAY Greeting card.
Below is the inside of Bonnie's card.

Bonnie's Backstory, as it appears above on the inside. "Not so long ago, Bonnie flew the coop to join a circus. She apprenticed as a high wire acrobat, but her fear of heights caused her to fall off the job. Then, she tried being the Ladybird Cannonball, until she got fired. After that, she applied for the position of carnival barker, but a terrier got that job. Finally, Bonnie joined the clown club and learned balloon twisting. She was so good at creating balloon art that she left the circus and opened her business: Bonnie's Bodacious Balloons: 1-800-Blow-Up.

Next card is Gracie, also a BIRTHDAY card.
Inside of Gracie's Card:

Gracie's Backstory: When not competing in rebus contests, Gracie is a milliner (some gossipy beaks say she is mad about hatting!). She designs and sells hats at her store: Feather in Your Cap. Trendy designs of captivating fashion! Unique to her style are her own feathers, which she lovingly collects in moulting season and uses to accessorize her hats and caps. Look for her store's ad in the Birdbrain Newspaper!

Next, BIRTHDAY wishes from Roxie.

Inside of Roxie's card:

Roxie's Backstory: Roxie, a Psychoanalyst uses dream analysis techniques to help people take control of their dream life. She facilitates a podcast on BirdWire.net, conversing on topics such as; Dream Boats, Sink or Sail?, Evict The Monster From The Closet, Dreams are like W-Fi, Connecting Us To A Distant Reality, and Dream Lovers are Like Ghosts, You Can't Phantom A Life With Them!

A Sidenote about Roxie: Rarely am I inspired to mimic a living person in a ladybird's features. Roxie is an exception. Her eyes were inspired by a certain look a friend has, a certain sly merriment as seen in K. Scott's eyes!

Next,  Birthday Wishes, just for a man!
Inside Claudette's card:

And another Birthday card suitable for a man:

Note, the above card, front and back, scanned in a rather dull color, the actual color has more clarity than what shows here.

Next Up, a few Holiday Cards: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

For Halloween: Wendolyn

Inside Wendolyn's card:

Also, for Halloween, Hazel, and her friend Earl:

For Thanksgiving, Greetings from Agatha:

Inside Agatha's card:

A sidenote about Agatha: While all my Ladybirds are fashioned from my imagination, and never are meant to resemble any particular bird, or characteristics, Agatha is the exception. I created Agatha to be crow-like.

For Christmas, a special poem from Lulah, and Jasper:

Inside of Lulah's card:

A few more Ladybird Cards to say Thank you, or Feel Better, or For Any Occasion!

Meet Contance! She allows you to say whatever you want; A note of gratitude, an invitation, or maybe a few words just to say you are thinking of that special person!

Inside Contance's card: Contance's backstory is at the bottom of the card. The top and middle are blank, for you to write in your personal greeting or message.

A sidenote about Constance: Constance is the only Ladybird who does not have green eyes. I was in the process of conjuring Constance when a beloved person died very suddenly, and shockingly. In a small way... to honor him, I colored Contance's eyes blue, the closest shade of blue to his eyes. RIP: WCS, 1/30/2025.

Felicity's Greeting is sure to bring a smile to anyone who needs to feel better, be it recovery from an illness/surgery or needing rest!

Inside of Felicity's card:

If you are looking for a way to say Thank You... The next Ladybird trio has the answer!

Inside:

And Last, but certainly not least, is Maudie. Her card lets your recipient know she is valued! What a lovely way to leave a short note of "thinking of you,' or a way to say thanks, or a special way to let your thoughts be expressed.

Inside: Write your own thoughts in the blank area at the top and middle.
